HOMAG BAZ

Series of CNC-machining centres with edgebanding aggregate . In 1987, Homag introduced the first CNC machining center with an edgebanding aggregate. Since then, all machining centers with this feature have the type designation "BAZ". Machines without an edgebanding aggregate have the designation "BOF". These names are abbreviations for the German words for "machining center" (Bearbeitungszentrum) and "processing router" (Bearbeitungs-Oberfräse). Initially, stationary CNC machines were mostly called "CNC router" because of their origins in the router technology, while the term "machining center", used by Homag, was mostly used for machines with an edgebanding aggregate. However, in the language of the wood technicians, the term soon became so popular that today almost all stationary CNC machines are referred to as machining centers. The distinction between the types BAZ and BOF faded for the first time in 1995, when edgebanding aggregates that could be inserted into the machine by means of an aggregate interface were introduced. However, the required interface was not available on most of the machines of the BOF series. With the introduction of the new generation of the "easyEdge" aggregate in 2007, it was now, for the first time, possible to easily retrofit BOF machines with C-axis with an edgebanding aggregate. Therefore, Homag introduced the designation series with only one "B", while the individual machines still have the names "BAZ" and "BOF", depending on the equipment with edge banding aggregate or not (or with the interface that is also apt forPowerEdge.
