Wood Scanning SystemThe Wood Scanning System, introduced in 2009, detects errors in the surface of workpieces, the workpiece contours and characteristics of the wood. Mode of operationDuring the scanning all four sides of the workpiece are recorded, suing laser lines, white light and cameras. The laser beams scan the surface of the wood; the cameras record the scattering of the reflected light and the dimensions of the wood. Using the recorded data, the optimization software calculates the cross section and geometry of the workpiece as well as the different quality areas (quality optimisation). It is also possible to take information from external source into account for the calculations. These can come from a moisture meter or from manually made chalk marks. After calculation the results from the scanning software are transferred to the CNC control of the cutting station. Examples for wood errors that are detected
