Triangulation is a method of optical distance measurement using trigonometrical functions. The used source of light is a laser, which lights up the object which is supposed to be measured under a certain angle. The scattered light is recorded by an electronic imager. If the direction of the light beam and the distance between camera and light source is known, the distance between workpiece and camera can be determined. The connection camera - light source and the two light beams to and from the object form a triangle. This led to the name "triangulation". This measurement procedure is used as a standard, for example, in the edging and dividing system POWER_RIP from the machine manufacturer Paul. | PAUL triangulační měření |
