The height of the router head in spindle moulders can be adjusted in different ways.

Manually

  • The spindle is lifted or lowered by a manual wheel. In older precision milling machines the spindle height could be read out by a gauge. Modern machines usually are equipped with mechanic digital counters or electronic digital displays.

Pneumatically

  • The spindle can be lifted or lowered against two preset stops via pneumatic cylinder.
  • Purpose: The change between two tools can be conducted very fast, when they both are mounted on the router head.
  • This adjustment was replaced by continuously variable electromotive adjustment mechanisms.

Electromotive

  • The spindle can be height-adjusted with the help of an electronic servomotor. This happens either with a sensory key and digital readout or with a positioning control, where the required measure is inputted via keyboard and by pushing a button.
  • Program controls offer the additional possibilities to save recurring measures. If there are further controlled axes, it is possible, to save their settings together with the spindle height in programs, too. The setting time of the machine while processing the same, recurring parameters can be significantly reduced.

CNC control

CNC controls manage tool data, machine settings and workpiece data in databases. The processing programs can be created by these data. Due to the number of controlled axes the machine can fully adjust itself, the operator only has to insert the right tool. The settings can be:

  • Height of the milling spindle
  • Tilt of the router head
  • Stop position
  • Position of the stage plate
  • Rpm of the router head
  • Position of the feeding unit
