Steady rest

Záznam uvidíte za

Device on lathes for supporting workpieces, also known as "steady rests". In an outer part that can be adjusted along the length axis of the machine there is a rotatably mounted inner part in which the workpiece is guided on the rotational axis. This can be done, for example, with a square lunette ("square steady rest") or a ring-shaped chuck ("ring steady rest").

In addition, steady rests can be equipped with "pre-turning chisels", which allow rough processing of the workpiece along the axis of rotation. A typical application for this is the turning of square profiles onto a round bar.

Application for steady rest

  • For long workpieces, to avoid imbalance and deformation
  • For workpieces that cannot be clamped on the tailstock by means of a centering point
  • For short workpieces, e.g. on lathes for short workpieces
