STRIEBIG

STRIEBIG AG

Swiss manufacturer of vertical panel saws, based in Lucerne.

STRIEBIG is considered the inventor of the vertical panel saw.

  • The Swiss master carpenter Ludwig Striebig (1924 - 1995) had the idea of setting the panels and saw upright. This made it possible to cut large-format chipboard, which came onto the market in the mid-1950s and changed the way carpenters worked. As a cutting device, he constructed a wooden frame that supported a horizontally movable beam and on which he mounted a hand-held circular saw that could be moved vertically and swivelled into a horizontal position. Striebig initially used this construction to gain experience in his own workshop. From July 1961, he delivered the first vertical panel saws, the "Model 62". The frame and beams were already made of metal. The interest of his Swiss colleagues in a "Striebig" convinced him to give up his own carpentry business and manufacture saws from then on.
