In general, the feed conveyors of wide belt sanders have got a profile. Common are oval elevations or square cells. The rubber of the profile acts resilient against the workpiece, which is pressed down by pressure rollers, and thus ensures a non-slip and gentle transport.

For some sanding applications, however, smooth, i.e. unprofiled feed conveyors are indispensable.

Sanding of veneer sheets

During the sanding of very thin workpieces (about 3 mm thickness) the danger occurs that the abrasives could pit the feeding belt. Because of that many manufacturers equip their machines with smooth special belts. They largely consist of PVC, which is relatively resistant against abrasive.
