SCM RAPID

Tool changer

System of disc tool changers for CNC machining centres, which was introduced in the SCM Group in the late 1990s.

The Rapid tool changers were originally developed by Morbidelli, but were used throughout the SCM Group shortly after their launch.

All Rapid tool changers can be mounted on the boom at the rear of the machine. They thus travel in the X-axis; for changing in and out, the main spindle must travel to the changer via the Y-axis.

The Rapid 6 - Rapid 12 systems can also be mounted directly next to the spindle on the aggregates support, thus travelling in X and Y and thus enabling the shortest changeover times.

The Rapid system has a special technology for pre-selecting the next tool to be changed and enables comparatively short tool change times.

Rapid systems can be combined with each other as well as with the TRM system or with Tool Rooms and thus theoretically enable a number of more than 100 tool change places on a machine, which are only available through plate changers.
