Adjustable saw blades

  • defines the number of saw blades that can slide on a sawing spindle by means of bushing (sliding head)

Term from the field of solid wood engineering / panel processing describing the lengthwise cutting of raw solid wood material or the cutting of strips from panel material. This facilitates technical realisation of the alignment of cutting lines (spacing of the saw blades) with the raw material to be cut.

Starting point

The pre-sorting of raw solid wood material prior to cutting is a complex process, which increases cutting costs. The task lies in attaining the optimum in high quality goods from a range of raw materials (natural wood products), exhibiting varying growth, which require lengthwise cutting, whilst also achieving minimal wastage and rapid set-up times for the modification of the machine for other cutting widths. The requirement applicable to the multiblade saw and double spindle ripsaw is to rapidly and flexibly align the saw blade position on the sawing spindle according to the workpiece, without this resulting in an unnecessary delay to the cutting process.

Distinction

One distinguishes between various possibilities for fastening and adjusting the width of saw blades.

individual saw blades directly on the sawing spindle multi rip mount

  • simplest, inflexible solution. One or more saw blades are slid directly onto the sawing spindle and fixed in place with spacer bushings. This solution means switching off the machine and extensive set-up work when changing the tool equipment / when adjusting the cutting widths.
  • Inaccuracies due to production tolerances and dirt on the spacer bushings

Changing fully equipped saw bushings

  • If the requirements applicable to the requisite cutting widths can be reduced to a small number of dimensions (e.g. through pre-sorting) then the saw blades are permanently bolted to a saw bushing at defined intervals and separated by spacer bushings. When changing the cutting job (other material, other cutting width) the fully equipped saw bushing is replaced, saving time in comparison to the first solution. However, the machine must still be stopped / the production process interrupted.

Adjustable saw blades

  • Convenient variant that optimally utilises the raw material, whereby one or more saw blades can be slid onto individual sliding bushings with a rotating sawing spindle. There are multiple options with respect to the type and method of saw blade adjustment.
  • electromechanical positioning by corresponding operator input per foot pedal
  • pre-programmed dimension selection via push-buttons (cutting lists)
  • operator joystick, control with servo drive
  • automatic control of the saw blades and the workpiece alignment according to fault detection by scanner, board gauging
