Surface planer

Standard joinery machine for producing plain surfaces on square timber and boards in the first operation. Angularity is achieved in the second work step through placing the first straightened surface against the fence for edge planing. The workpiece is thus prepared to be brought to its final dimension in the thickness planer.

Construction and function

The workpiece is pushed over the feed table in the direction of the cutter block. This is located between the two table plates. The rotating cutter block takes off the set cutting depth. The maximum depth of cut depends on the machine (motor power, shaft bearing). The run-out table and the top point of the planing knife edge are at the same height. The depth of cut is regulated through height adjustment of the infeed table. It is carried out manually or electromotive. The angularity (usually adjustable from 45° to 90°) is ensured through a lateral fence for edge planing along which the workpiece is guided. With an adjustable fence for edge planing it is also possible to chamfer workpieces.
