This tool magazine from the company Morbidelli is directly mounted on the moving frame of the CNC-machining centre, designed as disc tool changer.

The Tool Room changer was introduced in about 2000 with a new generation of the series Author. In this time, it was only available as tool changer with 12 stations. Since 2005 it offers room for 24 tools, so it is identical with the Rapid24 changer of SCM.

In comparison with the Rapid system Tool Room changers need a higher amount of time, but offer higher capacities and enable the access to several working spindles on a single tool changer.

Construction

The Tool Room system is mounted at the rear side of the cantilever and moves together with it in X-direction. It can be combined with the extension TRM, so that the number of usable positions may be increased to 48.

A faster system with higher capacity can be achieved by combination with Rapid tool changers, espacially if two working spindles with their own Rapid tool changers are mounted. Consequently, the system needs a lower amount of time for the changing process. While one spindle does the processing, the other can load the right tool. As the program starts, the tool sequence can be optimized as well as it is possible to change from Tool Room to Rapid. In this way, even a fully automatic change of tools between both Rapid tool changers is possible.

SCM offers a tool changing system with the name Tool Room, too, but this device is mounted outside the machine, while the disc tool changer moving in X-direction is called Rapid 24.
