HOMAG Shuttle System

System in CNC-machining centres of the Homag BOF 500 series, where 2 machine tables can be used reciprocally.

  • Construction:

The Homag shuttle system presupposes the construction form fix gantry, moving table. A linear axis is realised by the movement of the machine tables. Both tables are arranged mobile on two levels, so they can move independently.

  • Sequence of a production cycle:

- A table is located outside of the completely enclosed area for loading and thus can be reached from 3 sides.

- The other table is located inside the machine for workpiece processing.

- After completion of the program the table drives out of the machine, while the loaded table moves into it.

- During the processing the outer table is destacked and loaded again.

  • Advantages of the shuttle systems:
  • In comparison to other systems with two tables here only a little space is required
  • 3 sided accessibility for the automatic loading and unloading
  • Disadvantages:
  • No fixed installed vacuum possible, a vaccum can be generated only after the positioning of the table above an automatic coupling element
  • No machine table that is firmly installed in the machine frame
  • System suitable only for flat table (matrix table, Homag O-TRIX-Tisch)
  • The shuttle system has been used only in CNC-machining centres - especially for nesting process - so far.
  • Initially it was a system developed by Weeke, which was used from about 2004 up to 2006 for the model Weeke BHP 520.
