Water ring pump

Variant of a vacuum pump, used for example in CNC-machining centres.

Technical principle

An impeller with fixed wing lengths rotates eccentrically in a chamber.

This chamber is filled with liquid.

The liquid is pressed against the edge of the chamber, caused by the centrifugal force that results from the rotation of the impeller. Thus, the liquid creates an uniform ring. Via eccentric configuration, chambers arise between the liquid ring and impeller that are constantly changing their volume. By the appropriate configuration of the suction and pressure openings negative and positive pressure can be generated.
