Vibration sensor

Midst of the years 2000, Homag introduced this vibration sensor, that allows the vibration measuring of working spindels on CNC wood processing machines and stops the machine if the vibration exceeds a defined limit.

Originally only higly qualified and high performance machines had an vibration sensor. Since about 2008 Homag offered this option for all models, because this technology has been proved to be good in it's practical application.

Advantages

  • Spindle protection, preventing overload and ensuring longer durability
  • Detection of tool unbalances and vibration, that could harm the production quality
  • Protection for operator and machine: the shooting through of broken fragments is prevented.

Disadvantages

  • Difficult material (e.g. solid wood with multiple knots) can lead to endless activation of the vibration sensor, which can slow down or even hinder the processing rate.
  • At the beginning, a subsequent calibration of the trigger level was not possible for the vibration sensor. Yet, this was improved since the years 2010; now the trigger level of the sensor can be modified via user menu at the control.
