Energy chain

The field of application of energy chains encompasses all areas in which it is necessary to supply moving machine parts with gas, compressed air, liquids, information (data) and electrical energy. The majority of square chain links are produced from plastic - in wood processing technology they are rarely manufactured from metal. Customary are chains that are able to move in two directions; also three-dimensional (3D) moving chains are available.

Task

  • Holding and guiding cables, hoses during the processing movement of machine parts
  • Adhering to the smallest permissible bending radius of the cables and hoses
  • Protection against damage and contamination

Quality features

Some manufacturers offer so-called quality packages for their machines. One common component is the use of "enclosed energy chains". In contrast to "open chains" the enclosed variant also protects against contamination, chips, small wood scraps and external damage.

A highly economical alternative is available in the form of rubber tubing, which is drawn over cables and hoses and offers them protection. This variant is only used in areas where minimal relative movement of machine parts occurs.

Alternative terms

  • Drag chain
