Barcode reader

Reading devices for barcodes, which can read out and transfer the data encoded in a barcode. Alternative designation: "Barcode scanner".

In wood processing, barcode readers are used in order to identify workpieces and call up the corresponding processing program in the machine, e.g. in conjunction with a barcode control

This enables complete production control. In optimum situations it is possible to track the production process of each individual part of a complete consignment and even link this with functions such as stock management and controlling.

The barcode is usually applied automatically by the beamsaw or nesting machine before or after cutting the individual parts. With smaller systems this can also be carried out manually by the operator.

In order to implement control via barcodes efficiently, all machines must be integrated into a network and the individual processing programs for the corresponding workpiece must be present on all other machines when the cutting program is started barcode control.

After being cut, the workpiece can be identified by the downstream machines. The process of reading in the barcode enables the automatic call-up of the appropriate processing program.

It is also possible to assign the workpiece to a consignment if necessary, and feedback can be issued via the network for controlling and production planning for example.

Barcode readers are most commonly used in: CNC-machining centres and drilling automats, edgebanders, carcase clamps or in solid wood processing in optimization cross cut saws as well as further systems for wood optimisation. Barcode readers can also be employed in wooden window construction, as well in packaging and picking.
