Ribbed and smooth rollers made of steel which are used as contact sanding roller in wide belt sanders for calibrating. Other than steel rollers, rubber rollers are also used in sanding.

Steel rollers are required for calibrating whenever the workpiece has portions of soft and hard wood. For example:

• Early and late wood zones, especially at wide growth rings
• Branches

When calibrating with rubber rollers, the soft parts would be ground out more, giving the illusion of antique wood.

Through calibrating some tenth of a milimetre up to max. 1 mm material can be abrased according to unit and abrasive grain. If a stronger material erosion is necessary, the use of a slicing unit is recommended or the calibration of the panel on one calibrating milling machine, e.g. LEDINEK ROTOLES.
