4mat is a patented method by HOLZ-HER for CNC-machining centres with clamp grippers, initially represented at Ligna in 2013.

Problem and solution:

Clamp grippers being applicated, the workpiece can generally not be processed in the area of the applicated grippers. Especially at its sides the milling process is difficult, and thus the complete workpiece formating. Yet, during the milling process a continuous feed should be garanteed and the router head should work without stop. Consequently the grippers could not just be removed and repositioned. Also the milling aggregate would have to be removed at a defined sequence in order to avoid collision and let the grippers pass.

HOLZ-HER offers 4mat as the solution, promissing the complete processing of the workpiece at its sides, both for boring and formating.
