Some chip deflection units are used with CNC-machining centres in order to guide chips into the suction cup during processing with especially high chip result (e.g. window construction).

Chip deflection units are normally plates of sheet metal of plastic, which are coupled with the C-axis and so via the control are always held in an optimal position towards the workpiece in order to guide the chips into the suction cup.

Many chip deflection units are introduces as changeable chip deflection units.

Without chip deflection units it may happen that after a few processing cycles the machine bed are filled with chips and has to be manually cleaned.

Another possibilty to effectively extract chips created during the milling process are so-called chip turbines, which exploit the rotating movement of the milling spindle.
