Calibrating and levelling

Glued wood shows joints after leaving the press. Before further processing, e.g. to stairway steps, the differences between the scantlings must be evened out. Even laminated panels often have slight unevenness, which becomes visible after varnishing or laminating.

The levelling is achieved by sanding with a calibration-sanding roller aggregate. If solid wood is to be calibrated, the sanding roller must be made of steel in order to remove hard and soft wood sections evenly. Chipboards and fibre panels can be calibrated with hard rubber rollers (90° Shore). Veneered surfaces require a levellized grinding. This is carried out with rubberised sanding rollers with 45 to 60° Shore hardness.

If the desired chip removal for solid wood exceeds one millimeter, the first working unit should be a planer aggregate.
