Cross sanding

Varnish and oil allow the wood fibres to swell so that they straighten up. This effect can be counteracted by sanding the fibres with the cross sanding unit before varnishing. A cross sanding unit is also necessary where fibres appear in different directions in a workpiece, as is the case with frame constructions (e.g. solid wood doors, wooden windows) and veneer mosaics. In addition, various surface effects can be achieved with the help of cross sanding units.

Diagonal sanding

The diagonal sanding unit, which is offered exclusively by Kündig, works similar to a cross sanding unit. It is a lengthwise sanding aggregate which can be swivelled by 10° to the feed direction. In addition to shearing off the wood fibres, the diagonal position ensures that the sanding flaws occurring with increasing sand paper service life are "mixed", so that a fine, even sanding pattern is achieved.
