Zero joint - Overview

Zero-joint technologies at a glance

Since the market launch of the first zero joint edgebanding machine, manufacturers of edge material and adgebanders have been developping miscellaneous technical method for activating the functional layer. This chapter gives a rough overview of the individual technical methods. Details on the individual technical methods and the available machine technology can be read in the following chapters.

Laser

  • Feedrate: up to 60 m/min
  • Acquisition costs: Aggregate approx. 150,000 € + machine (status 2015)
  • Directly to the Laser technology

Near infrared radiation (NIR)

  • Feedrate: up to 25 m/min
  • Acquisition costs: aggregate 25,000 € + machine
  • Direct to the NIR technology

Hot air

  • Feedrate : up to 20 m/min
  • Acquisition costs: Aggregates between 35,000 and 45,000 € or new machines with hot air unit between 60.000 and 120.000 €, retrofit units including mounting between 21,100 and 37,000 € (status 2015)
  • Direct to hot air technology

Plasma

  • Performance data similar to laser processes but the costs are lower, plasma units can be retrofit to existing machines
  • Acquisition costs 80,000 to 200,000 € in 2012
  • Sales to be discontinued approximately in 2016
  • Directly to the Plasma technology
