History

2016

The 4100 employees from the Leitz group of companies effect an annual revenue of over 460 million Euro.

2012

On the HOLZHANDWERK fair Leitz introduces various supplementary material to the 'Leitz Lexicon Edition 6'. The lexicon DVD contains an interactive version. Furthermore, there are printed guides that enable the usage in 15 additional languages, including Chinese, Italian, Russian and Polish. What is new is the Leitz-App, which enables besides other functions the use of the lexicon on smartphones and tablets.

  • Leitz products are used in over 150 countries worldwide. With 10 production facilities in Europe, Asia and America, 37 international sales companies, a network of around 200 service stations with affiliated manufacturing quick manufacturing and distribution partners the company has its presence in about 100 countries.
2011

The 800-page 'Leitz Lexicon Edition 6' is published in German and English language at the LIGNA in Hannover. Within the lexicon: The 'Leitz User Lexicon'.

2009

In September the 5th edition of the 'Leitz Lexicon' is published.

2006

Establishment of a Leitz-distribution center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

2001

New company name: Leitz GmbH & Co. KG

2000

The company Demps Saw & Tool Company Inc., Archdale, North Carolina,is integrated into the U.S. company of the Leitz Group.

1997

Release of the first edition of the Leitz-lexicon (nowadays worldwide appreciated reference work in the wood and plastics). Opening a production facility in Nanjing, China.

1993

The first tools with electronic memory chip are presented.

1981

Leitz is the first to introduce polycrystalline diamond cutting materials in the wood processing.

1973

Introduction of the hydraulic clamping technology (for cutter performance and surface quality).

1968

Formation of the first high-precision cutter for finger joints.

1959

Leitz introduced the use of carbide as cutting material.

1921

Development of the first window tool set in cutterhead design. There are following other patent grants.

1913

The 'Werkzeugfabrik Gebrüder Leitz' publishes (in its second generation) their first tool catalog.

1910

Leitz receives the first patent for a mechanically operated cutting tool.

1906

The company specializes in the production of machine tools.

1876

Albert Leitz establishes in Oberkochen, southern Germany, the 'Württembergische Holzbohrerfabrik'.
