MASTERWOOD PROJECT 323

The Project 323 was one of the longest produced model series from Masterwood.

After the merge of Zangheri&Boschetti and Muti to Masterwood in 1990, they began to produce stationary CNC-machining centres.

The first generation of machining centers included the model series Project 319/Project 323. The machines were based on the same basic model, the only difference was their aggregates support, which, for the model 323, had more drills and more free spaces for router heads or saw aggregates.

An interesting feature was the Masterwood development and patent of pickup tool changer, traveling along the aggregates support, which allowed very quick tool changes despite the simple technical solution.

In about 1996, the series was discontinued in the previous version, the Project 319 was replaced by the model Project 320, but the model designation Project 323 was retained. However, this was a machine, which had almost nothing in common with the original model. The new model 323 now had the blue/gray Masterwood design and was equipped with a new control, a newly developed aggregates support and a working table extended in Y.

Another revision took place in mid-2000, when Masterwood changed the design of all their model series to a new rounded design and introduced controls of a new generation. The Project 323 has been extended by various model versions and options.

The machine was built until about 2005.

Basic equipment at launch

Equipment of the last version

  • 3 basic models:
  • Project 323: working range 3.210 x 1.650 mm (milling range of the outer milling spindle)
  • Project 323L: working range 4.510 x 1.650 mm (milling range of the outer milling spindle)
  • Project 323XL: working range 6.010 x 1.650 mm (milling range of the outer milling spindle)
  • 2 router heads, optionally with ISO30 or HSK-F63 tool holder and c-axis on one spindle
  • Drilling block with 12 vertical drilling spindles as well as 4 in plus/minus X and 2 in plus/minus Y
  • Available was a large number of tool changers, which could be combined with each other:
  • 6-fold disc tool changer traveling in X and Y
  • 5-fold disc tool changer traveling in X and Y
  • 14-fold disc tool changer traveling in X
  • 7-fold pickup tool changer on the right side of the machine
  • One or two 5-fold pickup tool changers on the right side of the machine (only models L and XL)
  • Control CN 12

Since a very wide range of clamping systems and options for special applications was available, the model 323 was used in almost all sectors of solid wood processing and furniture production.
