Forkshaped head

Term for a series of 5-axis-spindles in CNC- machining centres. DescriptionFork heads own a C-axis as well as another axis of rotation, hung up double-sided on the main spindle. The technically correct synonym were in fact Kardankopf, as the suspension is similar to a kardan joint but this term has pushed through for a hung up milling spindle. Once in a while this term 'one-sided hung up fork head', but this seems pointless as the double-sided mounting has been the the distinctive feature of other heads. AdvantagesConstruction wise fork heads are always more difficult than comparably one-sidedly hung heads. The dynamics is therefore lower. The space requirement is significantly higher, which is why the processing area is limited. See also: |
