The word "UV drying" is quite common, talking of UV- radiation for surface coating and finishing. UV hardening and UV curing are the correct technical terms.
Difference: Drying - Hardening
- Drying is a physical process during which the readily volatile components of the coating (water, solvent) are evaporating. Normally a power supply accelerates the drying process in the form of iR radiation and/or warm air. The volatile components are removed by extraction (evaporation channel, drying channel).
- Hardening / curing (of surface coating with photoreactive substances) is based on polymerization, a chemical process of building and cross-linking long molecule chains within fractions of a second. The necessary power is supplied by means of UV radiation.
