Enclosed drag chain

In automated manufacturing processes there are a variety of technical components, which are usually connected to each other by electric cabels (wires) and hoses (for compressed air, technical gases, collant, hydraulic lines etc.).

Tow or energy chains bundle, lead, stabilize, preserve and protect cables and wires, which run between fixed and moving machine parts.

The term "geschlossene Schleppkette" (enclosed tow chain) is regarded as a mark of quality. The chain links are closed on all sides and thus protect the wires against damages.

  • Example CNC-machining center: Workpiece remains etc. cannot get in contact with wires and damage those when an enclosed chain is used.

Alternative terms:

  • Energy chain
  • Energy guiding chain
  • E-chain
  • Tow chain
  • This term is not to confuse with an enclosed tow chain which is a technical term of the solid wood cutting field.
